Finally I See

A friend once told me that the definition of the word beautiful is ‘Be You To The Full.’ I never really understood it at first. I thought it was just another silly saying or overused hashtag caught on by today’s youngsters. But oh boy was I wrong! Once I adjusted and re-climatised my thinking to what she said, it simply meant ‘BE YOURSELF’ – warts and all. To truly accept yourself for who you are and never being anything less than yourself. It was quite a hard pill to swallow at first as it deals with the core acceptance of self; not in a vain or selfish context, but in a way that means loving yourself as a person. Careers are a big part of our lives. We spend a majority of our time on Earth working in our professions, whether temporary or permanent. Regardless of whom we are and what we do, we should all have one common denominator when it comes to our careers… vision . Vision is important because we must have direction in life. We can get by on the ‘go with the flow’ mindset for some time, but at some point we find that this theory will crash and burn, as there’s no clear route. There are many stages in life that prepare us for progression, and careers are one of them. In order to progress it means that we must become better at something. We must take time out from our busy schedules in order to master or strongly craft a particular area.   The route for most of us is to start off in education, where we acquire the theoretical knowledge. Life can be tough. As people, we get knocked back and forth by circumstances, some of which are within our control and others that are beyond our control. We make decisions, good and bad, impacting every part of our world. These decisions make way for prosperous fruit or a decaying life. Influence is such a powerful tool in society. A person who has it gripped firmly in their hands can become a positive icon or a destructive weapon. In our IT savvy, external ‘want now’ generation, the meaning of identity has become blurred. Our understanding of ‘self’ has become personally absorbing and dependent upon temporary things. Culture and traditions, lifestyle gadgets including music and technology, religion, politics, the media; are just a few warranted soldiers of influence. That you are precious and one of a kind? Have you realised that you might at times not fit in everywhere you go?  But instead of looking at that as a fault or yourself as an outcast, Do you ever stop to think that its okay to be different? Why are we so obsessed with trying to fit in with the norm that we would rather abandon our uniqueness and settle for a carbon copy of another's self? MISTAKES : We all make them, small or big. Waiting on a bus, train, taxi, in the line for food, movies, fiancée, money etc can always seem like a test of our patience. We strive to keep it all together, but the truth remains, we want then all INSTANTLY! So I ask, What is with the INSTANT factor in each of our lives? Why does it seem like we would prefer the microwave process instead of the oven cooked way, especially knowing at the back of our mind that the oven cooked process produces a better outcome?
