Seasons - What season are you in?

The word ‘season’ is defined as “each of the four divisions of the year (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) marked by particular weather patterns and daylight hours, resulting from the earth's changing position with regard to the sun.” Take away the weather connotations from this definition and focus on the words PATTERNS, HOURS and CHANGING POSITIONS.

Just like the weather, we humans have seasons too. We change physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually throughout our lives. We can liken our seasons to life- situations and circumstances. Some seasons are easy, others can be hard (really hard), and never the less they’re unavoidable. They can; and do, shape and affect us in different ways.

An individual’s situations and circumstances are different. Moving in and transitioning from season to season can be tricky. Not only do we need to be aware of which season we are in (Ecclesiastes 3:1-11) as this part of the Bible shows us there are times for everything, but we must also be able to accept it and grow in and from it. We must be honest and truthful with every aspect of our lives and how we are handling them.

Weather can be unpredictable. When there are storms and high waves we can tend to move or hide. But when the sun is out we are happy as larry. No matter how much in advance we may know what it is like, it can always change. Just like we dress for the natural weather, we must make sure that we are dressed in our spiritual walk with Christ also (Ephesians 6:10-18). Just as we clothe ourselves physically, we must also be clothed mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

We need to do what is necessary to look after ourselves and grow as people. Dependent upon the season you are in, this may be very different. There may be hard decisions that we need to make, relationships we have to lose, opportunities we need to take, things we need to uproot and re-learn, etc. We need to be prepared in and through EVERY season.

Be aware of every PATTERN and CHANGING POSITION(S) you will be in. Your thoughts, emotions, physical changings, appetite and desires (spiritual also), behaviour; etc, be alert of them all and reflective. Let Christ walk you through them. Don’t ever get out of your season prematurely… commit to the process (no matter how hard) and come out stronger on the other side.

Before the year is out, take a few moments to ask God what season you are in. Accept it; get a Word for it and direction in and through it. No matter which season you are all, they all have one common theme… revealing Christ in us (Colossians 1:27), transforming us into His image (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Seek Him in your season today.
