What Do You See?
Shout out the first 5 words that come to your mind, without pausing, if someone asked you, “What do you think about yourself?”

How did you find it? Were they all nice, or did you have some bad ones in there too?
One of the hardest things in life can be to face your own reflection. To be free enough to say what you really think about yourself. Sometimes it is soo much easier to continue to wear the masks (the false identities worn from the lies we have accepted and become over time), than it is to look in the mirror and see our true reflection… who we really are (Genesis 1:26-27).
Michael Jackson sang a famous chorus. Sing it with me;
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you want to make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.”
– Man in the Mirror
It takes courage (the quality to face difficulty, danger, etc) to look at yourself in the mirror. Think about the 5 words that came to mind earlier and look in a mirror. Are these words your true reflection or a lie in a beautifully framed glass? Take a good long look and begin to challenge each word… “Is this me or is this a lie?” Go on, ask yourself that question. What are you thinking now? Is it the same or different? If you stare for long enough, you’ll become more aware of yourself… warts and all.
The good thing is this, as well as spoken in this song, you can change. No one is perfect (so please don’t try to be), but we must see an accurate reflection of ourselves. Can you be bold enough to confess what you think about yourself and find the courage to change it if it is wrong? Before the change comes, you must first challenge and renew your mindset, ask God for help where you feel helpless. With persistence and the right counsel, it can be done. At times you will be challenged but remember just like a hurt, a cut or a scratch every band-aid hurts when you rip it off… BUT healing comes. Let the true you ARISE.
Be encouraged to take a look in the mirror, if only a peek at first until you have the strength to keep looking for the belief that you are more than you think you are.
